Explore the captivating world of Allan Howard, a renowned artist specializing in paint and black ink.

Allan Howard is an artist based in the Shropshire countryside near Shrewsbury. With a passion for paint and black ink, he has been creating stunning artworks since the mid sixties.

His studio is a haven for artistic expression. Located in the beautiful Shropshire countryside, it is where he brings his visions to life.

Allan’s work has evolved from early portraits and life drawings to abstract pieces using oils, gouache and collages in vibrant colours. They develop as they are created, fusing technique with image, intuitive experiment and improvisation that can lead to unpredictable results.

His inspiration comes from Cornish Artists, particularly conversations with Patrick Heron at his home Eagles Nest in Zennor and at his studio in St.Ives. Time spent touring the galleries and studios of Van-Gogh, Picasso and Matisse in the South of France. And eight years working as a mining surveyor in the deep coal mines of South West Lancashire.

Allan has practiced and exhibited since 1964 first in the North West, then from 1974, in the West Midlands.  He attended Life Studio sessions at Wigan Art School 1964-1972 and Shrewsbury Art School 1974-1984.  Studying at Manchester School of Art and Design from 1967-1971

Allan worked as a Landscape Architect at Telford Development Corporation from 1973, and from 1983 to 1988 as the Principal Landscape Architect managing a team of eight. During this period he designed and administered numerous Public Art pieces for the town.

He has shown his work numerous times at the prestigious RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) gallery since 2014.
